  • Alaska Experience

Our stay at Eagle Head Cabins was truly the “Alaska Experience.” The property was extremely well maintained. The lawn was pristine. We had access to fishing on the Kenai directly behind our rear deck. The cabins were cozy and clean. The kitchen was stocked with everything we needed to make our own meals. Jerry was an awesome host. He showed us around and took care of anything we needed. He even showed us how to fish the sockeye out of the river! Eagle Head cabins are amazing and I recommend them to anyone coming to Alaska.

  • Absolutely Amazing

Absolutely Amazing. This was a trip I had dreamed about for many years and the Russell team didn’t disappoint. Many thanks to all the staff but, one man just makes the experience easy to enjoy. Jerry was a great host that was ready to solve any problems we had. From showing me how to get some fresh salmon to keeping our catch cold for the trip home, Jerry had all the
    answers.

The fishing charter Captains are outstanding. Badger, Austin, BOB and Tyler, thank you all for great times that will never be forgotten. The whole trip was run and set up perfectly. I could tell that over many years this has been streamlined for the customer. Even if I had no idea what was going on, there was always someone to guide me.

Thank y’all for a great vacation and we are already planning the next trip to Eagle Head.

  • Perfect place for our vacation

Eagle Head Cabins on the Kenai River was the perfect place for our vacation in July!  We could not have asked for a better destination.

Our cabins were about 50’ from the private fishing dock and fish cleaning station overlooking the cool waters of the Kenai River where my husband and son landed a 10 pound salmon!  Jerry Johnson, the owner, came out to teach us how to clean and fillet it and told us a Salmon seasoning would be in our kitchen cupboard, which proved to be delicious! We used the grill in the community pavilion just outside our cabins to grill the salmon that night (talk about fresh salmon!) followed by s’mores on the campfire.

Jerry is organized. When we arrived, he met with us to go over things on the website making sure we knew about the cabins and grounds, in addition to all of our fishing expeditions for the week. Top of the line waders, rain coats and fishing equipment were provided for use during our stay.

The mountains, river, and beautiful large chain-saw carved wooden eagles and benches made for great photo opportunities for our family at the cabins. The cabins were very clean and comfortable with all the necessities. It was a peaceful place to relax after a day of fishing. Jerry cares so much about his guests and the property! He was always very friendly and eager to
share stories with us. He seemed like family to our family of 4. The grass is mowed regularly to curb the mosquitoes. We’ve heard how big they can be in Alaska, however, we didn’t have any problems.

We enjoyed a lot of restaurants in the area around Sterling and all were delicious. Eating out is a little more expensive than Iowa, though. 🙂

Eagle Head Cabins partner with Russell Fishing, a family owned fishing guide service who know how to do it right!  Every guide was very knowledgeable and made sure we enjoyed our day.

Each day we fished at a different location with a guide who specialized in that type of fishing. We had two salt water trips near Homer where we were successful fishing for Halibut, but also caught some other very interesting fish. One day we learned to use a floss fishing technique on the Kasilof River and caught our sockeye salmon limit. Trolling for King Salmon on the Kenai
River was a relaxing catch and release day.

A Fly-In to Big River Lake where we caught our 3 sockeye per person limit in 20 minutes was definitely a highlight of our trip. While there we were able to have an up-close view of many eagles and even bears. Moose were not seen at that location but we saw several on our drive around the Sterling area.

We had such an incredible vacation in Alaska filled with so many amazing memories!  We
highly recommend Eagle Head Cabins and Russell Fishing guides. We will definitely be back!!

  • Rivals 5 star Hotels

Lodging at Eagle Head rivals 5 star hotels. The cabin was very clean, comfortable, and boosts a beautiful accessible view of the Kenai River. We felt very much at home our entire stay. Our host, Jerry, was an amazing host. He was courteous, professional, and most helpful! He tookgreat care of us.

I highly recommend Eagle Head Lodging!

  • 5 Stars

5 stars, thank you for everything! The lodging at Eagle Nest, Eagle Head cabins in Sterling was very nice. Thank you Jerry for your great customer service and accommodation. The Eagle head resort is probably the nicest river front lodge we’ve ever stayed in. The fishing adventures were awesome! I can’t thank your fishing guides enough for all the time and hard work. I have to give them a lot of credit for all the rowing on the drift boats. We should’ve done a fly out fishing trip with you guys too. We would’ve liked to catch a little more salmon, but we still came out to a decent amount of weight. Jordan, Mike, Zach and Austin were awesome to have as our guides. We caught about 50lbs total of fish. Two good size halibuts brought the weight up quick.

It was my first time fishing in Alaska. My father and I do a lot of fishing in our area and neighboring states. My dad caught a king Salmon on his birthday with Mike. I’m very happy about that. We will be back next year for sure. I’ll put the recommendation to folks I know back home to whoever comes out looking for lodging and guides in Alaska.

  • ABSOLUTELY THE FINEST CABIN WE HAVE STAYED IN

We stayed at the Eagle View Cabin for 7 days and in our 11 years of fishing vacations this was absolutely the finest cabin we have stayed at.

Everything is immaculate, beautiful views of the Kenai River, well appointed kitchen, high speed internet, free laundry facility, and outstanding Alaskan décor (mounted heads, wood carvings, fish…).

The owner, Jerry, lives on site and is super accessible. He looks after every detail including charcoal and gas grills, finely manicured lawns, sturdy and spacious fishing docks as well as an abundant supply of rods, reels, waders, rain gear and unlimited ice to keep your fish fresh.

If you are going to stay on the Kenai you will love staying there.

  • QUIET AND PEACEFUL

A very clean, organized, and efficient place to stay! My husband and I stayed here for our honeymoon/fishing trip. The cabins are neat and fully stocked with all needs from kitchen to bath. Jerry is very accommodating with his beautiful property from the docks right on the River, the fully equipped fishing rods, fish cleaning and packaging stations, to the beautiful grilling/bonfire gazebo. The area is very quiet and peaceful. We had a moose walk right through our cabin yard, 15 feet from our deck. The place has a very convenient laundry and ice machine. We greatly appreciated the tote with unlimited ice for our daily fish catch. We stayed a week, and were very comfortable!

  • BEYOND OUR EXPECTATIONS

We really enjoyed our stay at Eagle Head. They went beyond our expectations. Jerry, the owner/host, was very gracious even before we arrived.  The navigation directions were right on. He helped us orient ourselves to the area with advice on places to eat and shop. Upon arrival we were given a personal tour of the property. The facilities are great and very well maintained. Our cabin was comfortable, clean and well appointed. The entire property is right on the Kenai River with wonderful views and direct fishing access. Jerry provides top quality fishing gear and instructions to catch Sockeye right from the shore of the property. The rain gear provided for charter fishing outings are excellent quality and have multiple quantities in all sizes, so you get a good fit. All in all, it was a great experience and we look forward to our next visit.

  • Amazing Stay

Amazing place to stay in the Kenia River area. (This place is located on the river). Rooms were clean and comfortable, kitchenette and small fridge was perfect. Also gas and charcoal grill in the common area. We did all of our cooking here. The grounds are amazing, looks and is first class. Jerry is super helpful he really knows the area and how to fish. He has fishing equipment you can use and some fish cleaning stations. We pulled in at 1000pm at night and he was right there ready to show us around and get us all set up in our cabin for the week. We will be back next year. If your looking for a very Very Nice place to stay on the river in the country, with all first class accommodations this is it. My Wife and I stayed for 7 days end of July through first week of August had a perfect stay. thank you Jerry for everything

  • Gorgeous View, Great Service

We spent a week @ Eagle Head Cabins in 2021. They have experienced staff including Jerry, Glen and the Russells. They can set you up with most any salt water or river fishing charter you want. Cabins are clean and roomy. View of the Kenai River is gorgeous. Glen helped us switch a salt water fishing activity very quickly to the River when saltwater small craft warnings were happening. Jerry is always available to talk with if you have questions or needs with the cabins. He even taught us how to fish from the fishing platforms that are available on the property’s river front. Dustin Russell knows his business and then some when taking us on a multi specie fishing charter out of Homer. With Dustin we all caught Rockfish, Lingcod, yellow eyed orange Rockfish, and Halibut. Probably the best salt day we ever had. “Pop” Russell was extraordinary. We obtained our limit of Sockeye Salmon in 2 hrs because he knew when and where to go on the Kenai River. He is also a really good person and a lot of fun. Our group strongly recommends you stay @ the Eagle Head Cabins and use Russell’s for your fishing charters.

  • Amazing Alaska Adventure

    Amazing Alaska Adventure

We stayed at Eagle Head in June of 2020.  The cabin was absolutely beautiful and on the banks of the Kenai River too!  Centrally located on the Kenai Peninsula, within easy driving distance to Homer, Seward, Soldotna, and Kenai.  They provided us with high quality rain gear and waders that kept us warm and dry during our fishing excursions.  Laundry facilities right there were very convenient.  Huge ice machine provided plenty of ice for our coolers and for our catch.  I don’t think you can get fresher seafood using the provided barbecue to cook up halibut and salmon that had been caught just a few hours before!    Amazing Alaska adventure. Looking forward to staying here again.

  • Such a beautiful view that I proposed

Such a beautiful view that I proposed

This was our first time being in Alaska and staying at Eagle Head Cabins made it one of the most memorable experiences. When we first arrived we felt welcomed right away by the manager and owner, Jerry. The Eagle Perch cabin we stayed in had a wonderful atmosphere that was relaxing and enjoyable. The best part of the lodge is that it sits right next to the breath taking Kenai River. It has such a beautiful view that I proposed to my now fiancé. If we ever decided to come back, we know where we’re going to stay. Thank you again Jerry for your kindness. You will not regret staying at Eagle Head Cabins. Enjoy it when you’re there because the times flies by.

Beautiful place right on the Kenai River

Beautiful place right on the Kenai River

We stayed at The Eaglehead Lodge July 6-13, 2020. It was a beautiful place right on the Kenai River. We made this trip in honor of my late husband Travis. He was an avid outdoorsman and always wanted to go to Alaska and salmon fish. He told us if he never made it we had to take his ashes to Alaska and scatter them. We scattered them in the Kenai River right at the lodge and also at a waterfall. It was a beautiful place to honor his wishes and the manager, Jerry was wonderful. We will definitely be back again.

    Stunning Lodge

Stunning lodge. From the hand crafted log cabins to the setting on the Kenai River. The view is amazing, the management and staff are terrific, the guides knowledge of the area and the fisheries is outstanding. Eagle Head Cabins and Russell Fishing Company are worth the trip to Alaska!

  • Cabin was very comfortable

    The place is beautiful

Spent a week here in the end of July and had a wonderful time. The cabin was very comfortable and well stocked. The fishing platforms were very handy. My husband could fish as much as he wanted and I was able to return to the cabin to relax when I wanted.

The place is beautiful. We look forward to returning again. The charter trips were very well run. Especially enjoyed the halibut and king salmon charters.

  • Cabin was clean and comfortable

    Nothing Beats Alaska Eagle Head!

We had a great time at Alaska Eagle Head Resort. The cabin was clean and comfortable, the kitchen well stocked with cooking gear, and the fishing is 50 yards away! My wife could fish as much or as little as she wanted, then go back to the cabin and let me fish all I could stand.
The charters for King and halibut were with a first rate outfit, Russell Fishing. For a great Alaska fishing vacation, nothing beats Alaska Eagle Head.

  • Best place to stay on the Kenai!

    Absolutely Outstanding!!

Best place to stay on the Kenai!

Excellent fishing, outstanding hosts – all in an immaculate park-like setting. Extremely clean and well-kept; excellent for couples and families. Gated entry provides for added privacy.

The log cabins are – bar none – fantastic, with attention to detail (we stayed in Eagle Nest cabin); peaceful and relaxing setting yet close to town to run errands, if needed.

Hosts are fantastic – expert in catching fish and they willingly shared their expertise and tricks on how to catch salmon. Private fishing docks, excellent fishing (and excellent fishing gear provided), very relaxing environment. Fish cleaning stations, professional vacuum sealers and freezers. Enclosed pavilion with fireplace (inside) and fire pit (outside) for evening or afternoon “hang-outs”.

We have been in Alaska for over 25 years and have gone to the Kenai every summer. This is by far the best place we have ever stayed. Only complaint is that we had to return to the “real world” to get back to work!

  • Hands down the best place to stay

    WONDERFUL - HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION!

Hands down the best place to stay – & we’ve stayed at a few places in the area. It’s a labor of love for Ron & Denise & the property is immaculate. They were great hosts & lovely people. From the booking process to throughout our stay it was outstanding. We’ve had the same fishing guide for years & when I asked him for the best luxury rentals he recommended Eagle Head. Our guide picked us up from the dock out front which is so much easier than meeting at a launch ramp & wonderful for the end of the day not having to drive back to our place. We enjoyed sitting on the dock watching the river – it’s great for fishing too – although we just relaxed in between our day trips. Stayed in The View cabin – just two of us – & loved it. We like to cook & had everything we needed as well as condiments, spices & oils. We were also very lucky to have the whole place to ourselves while we were there. I’m a light sleeper & it was so quiet. This place is great for couples or large groups. The Gazebo is a nice spot to gather if you have a group – or you can sit on your own porch. We travel extensively for business & use VRBO a ton & this place far exceeded our expectations. Ron & Denise were the best hosts we’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting. Can’t wait to return next year!

  • We had the best 10 day vacation

    Relaxing, Comfortable, and FUN!

We had the best 10 day vacation at Eagle Head Cabins. Basketball, a golf hole, and fishing on the property along with gorgeous views, outdoor seating and amenities, and wild life made this trip memorable. The cabins were clean and equipped with everything we needed. Ron and Taylor were extremely helpful with fishing tips and helping us fillet and package our fish. Denise was always there to see that our comfort was excellent. The surrounding towns were so fun to explore and it was easy to take day trips into Seward, Kenai, and Anchorage. I was nervous about our children as they are only 3 &1 but they had just as much fun as we did. We WILL be back.

  • Cabin Was Literally on the Kenai River

    Best Family Vacation!

I can’t say enough about our experience at Eagle Head! Our cabin was literally on the river. It was beautiful! The grounds are well kept and had lots of grassy areas for our kids to play in. Our 2 year old twins enjoyed throwing rocks and golfing in the little golf area Ron has set up. Everyone was so nice and friendly with our kids and so helpful! It was so nice my husband could get up in the morning and stay out late fishing right outside our cabin window. I bought leashes for our kids and we would fish while they were safely anchored to the dock. Ron and Denise were so helpful our entire stay, and Ron showed us how to gut and fillet our fish. I was so impressed with the facilities – they have multiple fish cleaning stations, and vacuum packers so we could fillet our fish and vacuum pack them and put them in the freezer right after we caught them – or throw them on the grill. They also have the coolest freezer bags you can buy to bring your fish home. We were causal fishers, as we have small children, and came home with over 50lbs of fish. That was honestly without trying too hard. The cabins are beautiful and well maintained. There are carvings of eagles and bears and moose all over the property. We were there for 9 days and never ran out of things to do. We will definitely be back!

  • We would definitely recommend staying here

    Great location with comfortable cabins

Our family of 6- 2 adults and 4 children (17, 15, 13, and 10) stayed here in one cabin while my sister’s family of 4 stayed in another cabin. We couldn’t have enjoyed a better stay. The cabins were clean and comfortable with beautiful views of the river and bald eagles. The kids enjoyed playing basketball and making s’mores in the fire pit. We used the community grill and laundry which were much appreciated. Unfortunately the river was so high, it wasn’t really fishable when we were there, but we tried anyways. Took trips to Soldotna and Seward. Our hosts were so helpful and accommodating. We would definitely recommend staying here and would love the opportunity to go back again!

  • Cabins are Great, Beds are Comfortable

    Great Time

We had a great time at Eagle Head. The cabins are really great and the beds very comfortable. The evenings (which last forever in June) are interesting sitting around the fire pits with people from all over. The wine flowed, and conversation lively, a nice time.

  • Best of the best possible locations to stay in Alaska

    Adventure of a life time...

Absolutely positively the best of the best possible locations to stay in Alaska… And then if your are interested in actually hooking up and “landing” salmons… There is no better place.. The cabins are amazing… Hosts incredible… But the fishing is off the charts…. “Private Dock”…. If you have fished the river… Then you know… During the season it’s wall to wall fisherman…. But not here… And all the gear you can imagine is hanging on the wall.. Ready for you to use and if that’s not enough… Ron is standing by with a life time of experiences to guide you through the process.. And there is Denise… As sweet and charming as a host you could ever imagine… Denise made sure everything was perfect for us upon arrival and throughout our entire stay As previously stated… The best of the best!!!

  • I loved our cabin

    Best way to explore Alaska!

Alaska Eagle Head Resort was not just a place to stay on our Alaska vacation, but they also booked our activities for us for the whole week! I loved that our cabin had a private bathroom, kitchen and a large sitting area with a T.V. to relax in the evenings. They provided all the necessities for cleaning and packing our fish, and even had an outdoor pavilion where we could grill up our fish for dinner! We already want to visit again!

  • One of the best stays we had in Alaska

    Awesome!

Eagle Head Cabins is one of the best stays we had in Alaska. The log cabin we stayed in was nothing short of amazing. The decor was truly unique yet homey and comfortable. The grounds were terrific and the outdoor meeting gazebo area was outstanding. Ron and Denise, the proprietors were the greatest. The location is right on the Kenai River and the scenery was beautiful. It doesn’t get much better!

  • Special place on the Kenai River

EVERYTHING we dreamed it would be!!!

I grew up fishing the Kenai River every weekend, but had not been there in 30 years. My husband and I were looking for a place on the river that was special and we definitely found it with Ron and Denise at Eagle Head Cabins! I have traveled all over the world and have never had the hospitality that I did with Ron and Denise. They say they will do whatever it takes to make your stay great and they are not kidding! First the cabin we stayed in was the Eagle Perch, which has two bedrooms and places to sleep in the living room. Since it was only my husband and I, we had the choice between a tempurpedic mattress or a pillow top mattress. We chose the pillow top in the loft and our view from our bed was looking right at the Kenai River. The cabin, and their whole resort area, was immaculate….the setting overlooking the river is breathtaking! Having said all that, what truly set this place WELL above any other cabin we have ever stayed in was the hospitality we received from Ron and Denise. Within about 1 minute of meeting them we felt that we had known then forever….and when we left, we felt like we were saying goodbye to our grandparents. They are two very, very special people and we enjoyed every minute with them. The first day we were there, we had booked our own fishing guide on the Kenai and came home empty handed. Ron knew we had been excited about cooking a fresh fish for dinner that night so he took us down to the river and within less than 5 minutes, he had caught our dinner. Not only did he catch our dinner, but he also brought from his house everything we would need to cook it on the grill, and instructed us on how to make the most amazing tasting salmon ever! We ate our dinner in their new outdoor pavilion, which is a nice addition to their establishment as well. Knowing we had not had success on our fishing trip, Ron got on the phone and called someone he trusted would provide us the fishing excursion we were hoping for. We did a fly-in fishing trip the next day, which he booked for us, and we both caught our limit and had a fabulous day. Ron went out of his way during our stay to teach us how to fish, fillet and even helped us process our own fish that we caught right off of his dock. He has everything you would ever need to catch a beautiful salmon from the dock. Before we left, Ron helped my husband pack up our fish to bring home. The next day, having arrived back home in Wisconsin, we received a phone call….from Ron….just checking to make sure we got home OK and that the fish made it in good shape too. Honestly, I could go on and on about Ron and Denise and their resort, but you really just need to experience it first hand. I have told everyone about our time there and how amazing these two are. We were so sad to leave knowing that we had to say goodbye to them…but we rest assured knowing we will be back one day!! I would give Eagle Head Cabins 10 stars if I could.

  • Cabin is very well maintained

    Sweet Memory

We feel lucky to find Eagle Head. Our family spent a wonderful time there. The log cabin is very well maintained and decorated nicely. Our hosts, Ron and Denise are so nice and helpful. They made us feel like visiting friends instead of just renting the place. Ron showed my husband and son how to clean the fishes. And I enjoyed talking to Denise every day after our outings. I will definitely recommend to friends.
